Historic LDS Chapel in Cambridge, MA Destroyed by Fire

(This photo was taken by Barbara Exavier)
I think the word has already spread like wildfire (terrible pun, I’m sorry),
But today my brother Robert witnessed a three-alarm fire overtake his meeting house. He was sitting in the packed chapel for a stake conference broadcast when the fire alarm went off. Apparently it took everyone a while to realize that the alarm was for real, and everyone got out safely. But the flames overtook the building at an alarming rate. My brother took nearly 200 photos of the event–though he says the photos do not do justice to the magnitude of the fire. The photos can be seen here.
So far, no arson is suspected.
It was a lovely 60 year-old building, and many Latter-Day Saints have fond memories associated with the building, so it is a sad loss.
So. It was a day of adrenaline for my bro.

UPDATE: There is another great set of photos here, and a video here.
Such terrible news. I’ve been in that building (it was right down the street from a friend of mine), and am sad to hear of this tragic loss.
Okay, official word is they will rebuild, and it sounds like they’re going to try and keep the shell intact.
Very cool
